Behind the Blog

In April 2010 the man who was my Youth Pastor in highschool asked me to do him a favor – read a book he bought for me. Hesitantly, I agreed. {Click here for the complete story.}

After getting about 4.7 paragraphs through the book (and by “book,” I mean the “introduction”) I started feeling uncomfortable. Here was an author who was so burdened for the younger generation of the world – a generation of which the majority refuses to grow up! Stuck in the mindset that they can continue in their irresponsible, immature behavior like that of high schoolers, they age to 30, 40, and even older without ever reaching the mental and spiritual maturity levels that God intended for them.

In a sentence, the overall message of the book is this: “Culture pulls your backward, God calls you forward; choose the path of most resistance.”

I have felt God working in my life since the day my Youth Pastor placed that book in my hands. The Lord has been working in strange ways – ways that would not allow me to ignore Him, pretending as if none of it was happening.

I know that there are people out there who have been praying for me. You know how you just know…? — situations and sermons don’t target every detail of your life like that without prayers being made. And ultimately answered. I truly believe that.

It was then that I decided it was time for some changes in my life.

The purpose for this blog is to allow me to keep track of the struggles and victories I face during my Christian walk – that it should keep me accountable, and keep you informed so that you may know how to pray for me.

The types of posting will vary from personal experiences, devotional recaps, book reviews, and more.

God commands the redeemed of Himself to say so, and I admit that I have done a poor job of speaking up. I only ask for your prayers – everything else I need I can find in Him.

Will you help me?

Thank you,
Heather Joy

    You know how when you hear “good news”, REALLY good news, and you get tears of joy?? Heather, that’s what I’ve got right now. You’re on my list, OK? Love ya.

  2. It is so hard growing up. I am way older than you and still have a load to go as well. The biggest problem for me is selfishness.

  3. ‘Stuck in the mindset that they can continue in their irresponsible, immature behavior like that of high schoolers, they age to 30, 40, and even older without ever reaching the mental and spiritual maturity levels that God intended for them.’

    Spiritual maturity. Biological age does not guarantee this of course. It has more to do with the work of God in a life.

    ‘Will you help me?’

    I am looking for reciprocal followings with both of my blogs if this interests.
